Kilkenny motorists urged to beware of fallen trees as Storm Gareth batters country
KILKENNY motorists are being urged to drive with caution this morning as Storm Gareth continues to move its way across the country.
A Status Yellow wind warning remains in place for Kilkenny and the rest of Leinster, Munster, Leinster, Monaghan and Roscommon until midday.
A Status Orange alert remains in place for Donegal, Galway, Leitim, Mayo and Sligo with gusts of up to 130km/h recorded.
There are reports of fallen trees and debris on many roads.
Kilkenny gardai warned: “We are asking road users to exercise caution while using the roads as Met Éireann have issued Orange and Yellow weather warnings for strong winds.
“Take extra care, check local weather and traffic conditions before setting out on a trip. High sided vehicles and motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to strong winds.”
ESB Networks say a number of homes and business across the northwest have been left without power and crews are working to restore supply.
The storm is expected to move out into the North Sea by this evening, but another band of wet and windy weather is expected to arrive later tonight.
