Kilkenny fine diners named in new list of ‘101 Great Irish Restaurants’

TWO of Kilkenny’s best-loved food establishments have been named in a new list of ‘101 Great Irish Restaurants 2019’.

Campagne, the local fine diner which has been awarded a Michelin star every year since 2014, and Rinucinni’s – which recently celebrated it’s 30th year in the city – were both named in the guide, published by The Sunday Business Post.

The guide said of the much-loved slice of Italy on The Parade: “This classically elegant room opposite Kilkenny Castle has been home to the Cavaliere family’s restaurant. You don’t stay open that long in the notoriously fickle restaurant trade without doing something very right, and many things – the food, the service, the wine offering – are done very right here.”

It advises diners to: “Arrive early, eat your fill, then pick a nightcap from Ireland’s largest grappa selection.”

Kilkenny’s French-inspired Campagne (pictured above) also received a glowing review.

According to the guide: “Good things – very good things – happen in the kitchen at Campagne, with chef Garret Byrne and his team turning out indulgent French-inspired food with aplomb. Coq au vin, confit duck leg and rim baba sit alongside excellent game and fish, and the wine list if among the best you’ll find anywhere in the country.”

It describes Campagne’s €38 three-course lunch as “astonishing value, considering the quality of the food”.
