Thief smashed car window in broad daylight before fleeing with cash

A MAN was arrested after he smashed the window of a parked car in Castlecomer in broad daylight before fleeing with a small amount of cash.

The incident occurred at around midday on Sunday in the Barrack Street area of Castlecomer.

A Garda source told KilkennyNow.ie that a “very alert” member of the public witnessed the thief smash the car window before fleeing the scene.

However, the eagle-eyed witness was able to give a very accurate description to local gardai and the suspect was arrested a short time later.

A Garda source confirmed the suspect was “not local” and had been “passing through” Castlecomer when he carried out the attempted robbery.

He was subsequently arrested and charged and was due to appear before a sitting of Kilkenny District Court.
