A further five pass away as teachers’ union says September school plan ‘a surprise’
A further five people lost their lives from Covid-19 in the Republic of Ireland in the last 24 hours, the HSE said this evening.
The total death toll here is now 1,705 while the number of confirmed cases has now reached 25,295 after another 46 were diagnosed.
Meanwhile, Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) General Secretary John MacGabhann has described plans to get all children back to school full-time in September came as “a surprise”.
”It purports to be a plan but it is nothing of the sort. It is a set of aspirations,” Mr MacGabhann told RTÉ.
He added that teachers should be treated like other workers and be able to carry out their work safely.
