ALERT: Kilkenny householders targeted by conman pretending to be Revenue official just days before Christmas
Kilkenny householders are being targeted in a new phone scam by fraudsters falsely claiming to be Revenue officials.
Local gardai issues a warning about the latest scam which they said is “currently impacting on people”.
The contact is being made from a landline number with a 051 prefix, the code for Waterford and parts of south Kilkenny. The caller states that he is organising a refund from Revenue and requests bank details.
A local Garda spokesperson said: “The caller states he is organising a Revenue refund and requesting bank details. Please be aware of this SCAM which has victimised people in the past. If you receive such a call, do not divulge any information or engage with the caller.
“Do not give out your credit/debit card, bank account, or PPS number to anyone who makes contact with you over the phone. An Garda Síochána, Revenue, nor any financial institution will ever call you and ask for your PPS number or bank account details.”
Gardai urged anyone who recieves similar types of calls to iummediately “hang up” and contact their local Garda station.
