ALERT: Local road closed after serious collision as fog creates dangerous driving conditions

The N24 Waterford to Limerick road is closed just outside Carrick-on-Suir following a serious collision earlier this morning.

Gardai and emergency services are dealing with an incident which occurred on the N24 at Dovehill, around three kilometres west of Carrick-on-Suir shortly after 7am.

It is not clear yet whether it was a single or multiple vehicle collision.

Diversions have been put in place and traffic is being directed around Carrick-on-Suir onto the county Waterford side of the town heading west, while traffic heading towards Waterford is being diverted onto the Clonmel – Kilkenny road at the Fingerpost, just before Kilsheelan.

It is not sure how long the road will remain closed for as emergency services remain at the scene.

There was heavy fog in the area this morning and around South Tipperary and Kilkenny with gardai asking people to drive with caution, especially on sections of the M9 and M8 motorways.
