ALERT: Thieves target cars parked near popular Kilkenny hiking spots
KILKENNY gardai have urged car owners not to leave valuables behind in their vehicles when they are going for a hike.
Gardai warned there is traditionally an upsurge in car break-ins at this time of the year as the good weather and longer evenings set in.
Kilkenny-Carlow Garda Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Peter McConnon told KilkennyNow.ie: “We see this type of activity more around this time of the year. We are urging motorists not to leave any items or valuables on display in their car.”
In one recent theft, a vehicle that was parked near the Oak Park estate in Carlow was broken into and a number of items stolen.
Sgt McConnon also urged people to be aware of their surroundings when parking their vehicles and to be mindful of anyone acting suspiciously in the vicinity.
