Boardwalk at popular county Kikenny closed after anicent oak tree falls
The boardwalk at a popular county Kilkenny walkway has been temporarily closed after an ancient oak tree fell last night.
Nobody was injured after the oak tree, believed to be 800 years old, at Silaire Wood in Graiguenamanagh became uprooted and fell.
It is not known what caused the tree to collapse.
Kilkenny County Council is working on repairing the boardwalk.
A council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, the majestic Oak tree at Silaire Rock has succumbed to the passage of time having fallen last night. Kilkenny County Council have made arrangement to remove the tree and repair the subsequent damage to the boardwalk. During these works this section of the boardwalk will be closed to the public and your co-operation in this regard is appreciated.”
