BREAKING: Kilkenny councillor Martin Brett resigns from Fine Gael over Galway golf dinner – report
Kilkenny councillor Martin Brett has resigned as a member of Fine Gael but says he is undecided if he will step down from his role as Leas-Chathaoirleach of the county council, KCLR is reporting.
Mr Brett said he couldn’t stay in the Fine Gael party after Tanaiste Leo Varadkar removed the party whip.
“I suppose the party leader has made it clear that everybody must pay a price for what has happened. We attended the function inadvertently, but still we have to pay a price,” he told KCLR News.
Yesterday, speaking to KilkennyNow.ie, Mr Brett said he wanted to “unreservedly apologise” for attending but said he had no intention of stepping down from Kilkenny County Council.
