Section of M9 closed after ‘serious’ crash in South Kilkenny
THIS was the scene of a “serious” road collision in county Kilkenny tonight that has resulted in a section of the M9 being temporarily shut off to traffic.
Over a dozen members of the emergency services were at the scene of the collision, which occurred a short distance after the Knocktopher turnoff on the motorway.
Gardai were unable to confirm if there has been any fatalities or on the condition of the drivers or passengers.
A small crowd of people gathered on the flyover directly overhead the scene of the accident as emergency services worked below.
It appears the collision involved at least two vehicles, one of which had a horse box attached.
Debris and what appeared to be items of clothing were strewn across the road as emergency services worked at the scene.
Gardai directed traffic heading in the direction of Waterford off the motorway onto the Knocktopher turnoff.
AA Roadwatch confirmed: “M9 southbound closed between J10 Knocktopher and J11 Mullinavat as gardai deal with a serious collision. Traffic can either divert via Knocktopher and Ballyhale (R448), or come off the motorway earlier to travel via Thomastown.”
More details to follow.
