Brewing up a storm: Kilkenny people urged to heed emergency advice as Jorge nears
The National Emergency Coordination Group (NECG) is urging people in Kilkenny to heed warnings about the impending Storm Jorge, which could yet be the worst storm of the season.
The NECG met this morning and warned the public that very wet and windy conditions are expected across the country tomorrow.
People should expect flooding and the NECG has urged people to heed the advice given to by their local authorities for the duration of Storm Jorge.
A Yellow wind warning will come into effect for Kilkenny at 9am tomorrow, with winds of up to 110kph.
Met Éireann issued the following warning today: “Status Yellow Wind Warning for Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, Cork, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.
“A band of very strong winds, associated with storm Jorge (Hor-hay), will extend across the country during Saturday morning and persist through the rest of the day and into the night.
“Southwest veering westerly winds of mean speeds 50 to 65km/h with gusts of 90 to 110km/h expected.”
The warning will remain in place until 3am on Sunday morning.
A Status Orange wind warning has been issued for seven western counties overnight and extended to another three at noon tomorrow.
A Yellow rain warning comes into effect for Munster Connaught and Donegal at midnight tonight and will remain in place for 24 hours.
