Bungling burglars caught red-handed trying to steal power tools from Kilkenny building site

TWO thieves were caught red-handed trying to steal valuable power tools from a building site in Kilkenny city-centre over the bank holiday weekend.

The attempted robbery occurred at Evan’s Lane, just off John Street, at around 3.50am on Easter Sunday morning.

Gardai rushed to the scene after receiving a call from a security monitoring company.

On arriving at the site they found two men attempting to remove power tools from the building site.

The thieves scattered, with the gardai pursuing them on foot.

One of the men, a 24-year-old from Tipperary, was apprehended. However the other suspect managed to evade capture.

The 24-year-old was arrested and taken to Kilkenny Garda Station for questioning.

He subsequently appeared before Kilkenny District Court, where he was charged with burglary offences.

Gardai are continuing to hunt for his accomplice.

The power tools were left at the scene and no items were reported stolen.
