ALERT: Thieves target Kilkenny farms in black market scam
THIEVES are targeting farms in county Kilkenny for specialist equipment that is being sold on the black market.
In the latest theft, a blue-coloured bale handler was stolen from a farm in Baunta, Callan, earlier this month.
This week, in a separate incident, KilkennyNow.ie reported how an electric fencing unit was stolen from a field in Lyrath on the outskirts of the city.
A local Garda spokesperson told KilkennyNow.ie: “Bales handlers’ sole purpose is for the quick and efficient moving and stacking of round bales – they can’t be used for much else. But there is still a cost attached for the owner when machinery is taken.”
Gardaí in Callan are investigating the theft. They have urged anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Baunta area between June 2 and June 16 to contact them on 056 770 6630.
