Car seized after driver told Kilkenny gardai: ‘I won’t pay for insurance’

Kilkenny gardaí seized a car after the driver brazenly told them: ‘I won’t pay for insurance.’

Gardaí confirmed the vehicle was stopped by members of the Carlow-Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit.

A local Garda spokesperson said the driver will face a date in court “for this an his previous transgressions on four wheels and two”.

They said of the incident: “When a lawful demand was made for evidence of insurance, the man replied “I won’t pay for insurance’. His vehicle was of course immediately seized under Section 41 of the Road Traffic Act.”

The Garda spokesperson also warned that, if the vehicle is “not reclaimed and removed by tow truck… it will go to the crusher and the steel recycled into anything from a bicycle to a biscuit tin, neither of which you require insurance for.”
