Construction work gets underway on 17 new homes in Piltown

KILKENNY County Council Cathaoirleach Eamon Aylward was on hand to ‘turn the sod’ on a brand new estate consisting of 17 homes in Piltown yesterday.

The new estate, which will be called Breagagh Place, is being funded under the Rebuilding Ireland Programme.

Cllr Aylward said: “The provision of these 17 houses will be very much appreciated by those on the housing list given the current high level [of] housing demand in the Piltown and wider South Kilkenny area.”

The Piltown scheme consists of single and two-storey homes that will meet the needs of housing applicants seeking one, two, three and four-bed units. Two of the units are also wheelchair user friendly.

Kilkenny County Council said the new houses “will meet the needs of the elderly, the disabled and general housing needs”.

Some €2.7 million of funding was allocated by the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government to the Piltown scheme.

John Somers Construction Ltd is the successful contractor chosen to build the new estate.
