Students flock to county Kilkenny library to avail of late opening hours
By COLIN BARTLEY
STUDENTS sitting their Junior and Leaving Cert exams this week have been flocking to Castlecomer Library to avail of longer opening hours and study facilities.
The library has extended its opening hours from 8am to 10pm as part of a new scheme to give the public access to self-service library facilities. The scheme is being piloted in 23 libraries across the country.
And the extra hours have already stuck a chord with students .
Castlecomer Library has tweeted pictures of students using the facility at close to 10pm last night getting in some final preparation for their exams.
The new scheme, which came into effect this week is intended to extend the library services and no staff will be affected by the self-service upgrades.
The initiative is being rolled out as part of the government’s 2018-2022 Library Strategy which aims to double library membership nationally over that period.
