COVID-19 LOCKDOWN: Restrictions tightened as sweeping series of new constraints introduced
The Government has introduced a series of new constraints as restrictions are tightened in the battle against Covid-19.
From midnight tonight until Easter April 12, everyone must stay at home except for essential work, to shop for or collect food, or vital family reasons to care for children or vulnerable people, the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said tonight.
You can now only travel 2km outside of your home including exercise with no gathering of people at all outdoors.
All visits to hospitals and prisons are halted and immediate cocooning of everyone aged over 70 comes into effect.
The list of essential businesses allowed to stay open is to be tightened and will follow.
Mr Varadkar added that we must sacrifice our freedom in the short term to protect our citizens.
