Covid-19 Mass Vaccination Centre for Kilkenny people to be located in Waterford

Kilkenny residents will have to travel to Waterford for their Covid-19 vaccinations as the Government scales up the rollout of the national programme.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) has chosen The Arena at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) to host the Mass Vaccination Centre (MVC) for the South East region.

Once operational, the centre will cater for people in Kilkenny and neighbouring Wexford, Waterford, Carlow, and South Tipperary.

The WIT Arena will be one of eight MVC’s nationwide. The other locations have yet to be confirmed.

Waterford Fine Gael Senator John Cummins this week said the size of the WIT Arena and location on the city’s bypass made it “an ideal choice”.

He added: “The selected MVCs will have suitable space to enable full compliance with all public health guidelines and will comply with rigorous Infection Prevention and COVID-19 Control measures.

“At this point it has not been confirmed when the centre at the WIT Arena will become operational. I expect the major logistical operation to establish this mass vaccination centre to start very shortly,” Senator Cummins added.
