COVID-19 UPDATE: Death toll increases by 49 as paid leave for healthcare workers’ partners lined up in childcare move
Forty-nine more people have died after contracting Covid-19 as 631 more cases of the coronavirus were confirmed this evening.
It brings the overall Covid-19 death toll to 769, the Department of Health said.
Meanwhile, the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has announced that paid leave will be provided for partners of healthcare workers who work in the public service, possibly from May 5 when restrictions are reviewed.
Mr Varadkar added that the plan has been approved by National Public Health Emergency Team but that it would only apply to public sector households.
