Dan’s Winning Streak continues: Kilkenny pensioner wins €36,000 second time around on TV show

A LUCKY Kilkenny pensioner has scooped another €36,000 after he struck it lucky on the Winning Streak TV game show for the second time in 13 years.

Dan Shanahan, from Graignamanagh, made a winning return to the popular RTÉ show over the weekend.

Dan outdid his previous appearance on the show back in 2006, when he won €25,000.

The popular Kilkenny pensioner was having a chat with his fellow residents in Gahan Nursing home in Graignamanagh earlier this month while Winning Streak was on in the background. Someone had turned the sound down so he completely missed his name being called out.

He only discovered his good news the following day when his nephew Michael called him to let him know.

And even though he was on the show before, Dan said getting on Winning Streak was still a marvellous feeling the second time around.

He fared €11,000 better this time – winning €36,000, including a holiday to Lake Bled in Slovenia worth €3,000.

Dan went on the show six years after his loving wife Helen passed away. The couple had been happily married since 1955 and had 45 wonderful years together so Helen was close to his mind on the TV game show last weekend.

Dan lives in a shared retirement living complex in Graignamanagh in Kilkenny where he has been for the past number of years. He is close to his four siblings who leave nearby, some of whom cheered him on from the RTE audience as well as his nephew Michael and other members of family and friends.

With his winnings last time round, Dan treated himself to a new car. This time around he hasn’t made any plans just yet as he will take his time to decide

Winning Streak will take a week’s break due to the May Bank Holiday and will return to RTÉ One on Saturday, May 11, when five more players from all over Ireland will get the chance to play for cash, holidays and cars.
