Crucial decision on regional airport just weeks away
A major boost for the regional economy could be just weeks away.
Waterford Airport, which serves the South East region, is ready to commence a compulsory purchase order (CPO) on a house close to the site.
The house is situated on land required by airport management to extend the runway. The proposed extension will allow jet-engine planes to use the runway, which is vital to make the airport economically viable.
Once the CPO begins, the order goes to An Bord Pleanála for adjudication, who will then make a decision on the runway extension project.
If approved, this will clear the way for the commencement of the groundwork for the runway extension. The airport hopes to have the development completed, wiith commercial passenger flights resuming by Spring 2021.
