Delight as Kilkenny community gets green light for new playground
Kilkenny County Council has given the green light for a new multi-purpose play and sports development in Gowran.
The Gowran on the Move residents’ group expressed their delight on social media after the local authority approved their exciting plans for a multi-purpose play area in the town.
The development will include a children’s play zone, multi-sport ball court enclosure, perimeter walking track, access road to adjoining soccer club lands, carparking, landscaping (including footpaths), boundary and ballcourt fencing.
Approval was also granted for “all associated site works”.
Welcoming the announcement, Gowran on the Move said: “We are delighted to announce that Kilkenny County Council have granted planning for our local community playground/amenity area.
“The plans incorporate an inclusive playground for children of all ages and abilities. We wanted to ensure all children can play together regardless of their individual needs in a fun and adventurous play space. The area also includes two all weather courts for tennis, football and basketball. The playground will be encompassed by a 500 meters all weather walking/running track.”
The volunteers said they will be applying to “local and national funding agencies/organisations in the coming weeks/months” to seek financial support for the project.
They added: “When safe to do so after the current covid crisis we will resume local fundraising, including our weekly split the pot.
“We’d like to thank everyone for their continued support especially our voluntary committee.”
