Devastated owners of Kilkenny house undergoing renovations arrive home to discover property ransacked

By COLIN BARTLEY

THE owners of a Kilkenny house undergoing renovations were horrified to discover thieves had broken into the property and made off with all of the materials and tools they had bought for the makeover.

The house in Rathclough, Danesfort was broken into sometime between Thursday, September 12 and Saturday, September 14, while the owners had gone away  for a few days.

The house was undergoing extensive renovations at the time of the break-in, althought the owners were still living in the property.

The thieves managed to take all the materials on-site, including floor tiles, wooden floors, a new boiler, fixtures and fittings, as well as specialist tools and equipment.

A Garda spokesperson  said: “There was quite a substantial amount of materials and equipment taken from the house and the thieves would need transport to mover the amount stolen from the property.”

Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around that time, to contact Kilkenny Garda Station on 056 777 5000.
