Developer to learn fate of 48-house project in Kilkenny village

Plans to build 48 new homes in a Kilkenny village are back on the table after the local authority received more details about certain aspects of the development.

Developer John Staunton lodged an application with Kilkenny County Council in June of last year seeking permission to build the housing development at Moate Road in Ballyragget, near the centre of the town.

However, the council received numerous submissions from members of the public who had concerns about the increase in traffic the development would cause and the fact that the site was adjacent to a flood plain with some seeking clarification regarding the drainage of the site, among other concerns.

The council returned to the developer seeking more detail on these concerns raised, who has recently responded to the request with a 113-page document addressing the queries raised by the local authority.

A decision on the development is expected by the beginning of July.

John Staunton is hoping to build 14 four-bed homes, 30 three-bed homes, three two-bed bungalows, and one two-bed mid-terrace house on the site.
