€13,000 to help six Kilkenny pools make a splash when restrictions are lifted
Just over €13,000 has been allocated to swimming pools across Kilkenny accessible to the public as they prepare to re-open when the current lockdown restrictions are lifted.
Six pools across the county are to benefit from the second round of funding announced by Sports Ireland this week. It was the final allocation of an overall €2.5 million funding scheme.
The grants are given to help publicly accessible swimming pools respond to the challenge associated with their maintenance and the work to reopen them in line with Covid-19 safety protocols.
The six pools in Kilkenny to benefit from the funding are as follows:
*Kilkenny Active (€2,065);
*Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel (€2,390);
*Mount Juliet Estate (€2,089);
*Newpark Hotel (€1,880);
*Springhill Court Hotel (€1,833);
*The Watershed (€3,110).
Sport Ireland Chief Executive John Treacy said: “The high cost of maintaining pools while closed and the difficulty of reopening at reduced capacity is acknowledged by the Government and Sport Ireland.
“We are working with Ireland Active and Swim Ireland to ensure that pools are in a position to reopen to their communities in line with public health advice.”
