Eircom’s plans for 50ft high 5G mast in county Kilkenny village refused
A national telecommunications and broadband provider’s plans to upgrade their services in county Kilkenny have been dealt a blow after the local authority knocked back plans for a new mast.
Eircom Limited had applied to Kilkenny County Council to build a 15 metre-high free-standing communications structure at Archers Field, just beside Kilmaganny Village.
The local council had asked for confirmation from Eircom on whether they had explored other sites in the area, and whether the mast would be able to provide a 5G service.
Eircom responded, telling the council there were no other suitable sites in the area and that although the new mast could provide a 5G service, there were no plans to do so as yet.
On examining the planning application, which included the provision of associated antennae, communication dishes, ground equipment and all associated site development, the council decided to refuse permission to Eircom for the new mast structure.
They now have four weeks to appeal the council’s decision to An Bord Pleanála.
