ELECTION 2020: Counting resumes in Carlow-Kilkenny, Greens eye Bobby’s seat
It’s all to play for with five candidates still in with a shout of taking the three remaining seats in the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency.
Just two seats were filled after six rounds of counting last night. Kathleen Funchion topped the poll in spectacular fashion after she recieved 17,493 first preference votes.
She was followed by Fianna Fáil’s John McGuinness, who was eventually re-elected on the sixth and final count last night at the Lyrath Estate Conference Centre after he finally surpassed the quota of 12,274 votes.
Solidarity-People Before Profit’s Adrienne Wallace was the last candidate to be eliminated, and where her 4,823 votes transfer to will be crucial role deciding the final seats.
Carlow-based Jennifer Murnane O’Connor is likely to be the next elected candidate, followed by John Paul Phelan, who recieved a huge boost from running mate Patrick O’Neill’s transfers in the sixth count.
All eyes will be on the battle royale for the fifth and final seat. The Green Party’s Malcolm Noonan, who is currently just over 1,300 votes behind Bobby Aylward (FF), will be hoping to mop up the bulk of Wallace’s transfers and grab the last seat in Carlow-Kilkenny.
Hold on to you seats folks – the seventh count has just got underway!
