Election will proceed in Tipperary on Saturday – Returning Officer
It looks like voting will take place after all in the General Election in Tipperary this Saturday as originally scheduled.
Tipperary’s Returning Officer James Seymour has indicated he has been advised that – subject to written confirmation – polling will take place this Saturday, February 8 as originally arranged.
There were fears the election in county Tipperary could be postponed until February 29th due to the untimely death of Independent Tipperary candidate Marese Skehan on Monday afternoon.
Yesterday evening outgoing Tipperary TD and Independent candidate Mattie McGrath wrote to the Department of Local Government warning that he would take a legal challenge next week if the vote is postponed.
