Famous Kilkenny business and tourism agency latest to fall foul of scammers
A renowned Kilkenny hotel and a local tourism agency have become the latest victims of the increasing incidence of online staycation scams.
Langton’s Hotel Kilkenny and Kilkenny Tourism have fallen foul of online scammers who are using a cloned account to try and extract personal details from members of the public.
Kilkenny Gardai have confirmed that the latest posts, on social media sites like Facebook are a scam.
A local garda spokesperson said: “Please be alert. Gardai have been alerted to a social media scam involving a cloned Kilkenny Tourism page.
“This page is offering people to register with them for a chance to win a two night stay with Langton’s Hotel Kilkenny.
This is a confirmed scam! Please always be cautious when providing personal details when entering social media competitions,” the spokesperson concluded.
