Four more deaths and just 57 new cases, Government to cut €350 pandemic payment next month

Four more people have died after contracting the coronavirus as just 57 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed this evening.

It brings the overall death toll as a result of the virus to 1,608. There are now 24,639 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the country.

The latest casualties were confirmed as it emerged the Government is reportedly planning to reduce the €350 weekly Covid-19 payment from early next month.

The Sunday Times reports Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe will bring forward plans to change the scheme to the Cabinet this Friday.

Minster Paschal Donohoe will propose that from June, recipients will be paid their average income before the pandemic to avoid people refusing to look or return to work.
