Freshford murder trial: Jury to resume deliberations tomorrow
A JURY will continue to consider their verdict tomorrow in a trial of a 32-year-old man who denies murdering his partner at their county Kilkenny home.
Renars Veigulis of Old Bridge Street in Freshford has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to murdering Rita Apine (29) at their home on or about May 14, 2017.
Mr Veigulis (32) told gardai he was in the kitchen playing with his daughter when he heard a “boom, boom, boom” and then found his partner bleeding at the bottom of the stairs.
The prosecution has said the deceased’s injuries were not consistent with a simple fall down the stairs and that Mr Veigulis beat his partner to death.
The jury in the case was allowed to return home this evening after deliberating for over six hours.
