Gardai appeal for witnesses to crash that resulted in death of former Kilkenny star
Gardai have re-issued a public appeal for witnesses to the tragic accident over the weekend which resulted in the death of former Kilkenny hurler Lester Ryan.
The 61-year-old Clara clubman was killed in a collision involving a tractor on Church Road in Gowran last Saturday afternoon at 3.45pm.
Mr Ryan was laid to rest this morning following a private family funeral in accordance with Covid-19 regulations at St Coleman’s Church in his native Clara.
Lester played for Kilkenny in the 1980s and ’90s, winning three Leinster titles alongside his brother Harry. Lester’s nephew is the 2014 Kilkenny All-Ireland winning captain, Lester Ryan.
Tributes from all over Kilkenny and further afield have come flooding in for Lester since his untimely passing. Apart from his exploits on the field, Lester will be remembered from promoting hurling in his role with the Leinster Provincial Council and also for his work as a referee in the game he loved.
This morning gardai re-issued an appeal asking for any road users who may have witnessed the accident, or any road users who have camera footage (including dash-cam) and who were travelling on Church Road between 3.30pm and 3.45pm to make this footage available to gardai at Goresbridge Garda Station on 056 444 1222.
