LOST: Former Deputy Mayor admits he ‘misplaced’ ceremonal chain of office

THE ceremonial chain bestowed upon Kilkenny’s Deputy Mayor has vanished.

Former Deputy Mayor Joe Malone admitted the ceremonial chains have been missing since last November.

Councillor John Coonan, recently appointed Deputy Mayor after this year’s local elections, was due to receive the chain of office at the June council meeting.

However, Cllr Malone could not provide him with the set after he admitted he “mislaid” the chain.

The former deputy mayor told KCLR: “I take full responsibility for it.

“I looked high up, low down – one of those things – and I got a bit worried after a few weeks when I couldn’t find it. I thought it was between the van and my house, and I can’t find it – it’s mislaid.”

Cllr Malone has promised to replace the missing chain, at no cost to the council.
