Hurler of the Year Mullen to miss season as cruciate tear is confirmed

Kilkenny’s current Young Hurler of the year looks set to miss the remainder of the season in a serious blow to the Cats’ ambitions this year.

Adrian Mullen, the 20-year-old Ballyhale Shamrock’s clubman tore his cruciate ligament in his knee in the drawn league match with Clare over the weekend.

Mullen was stretchered off in that game in UPMC Nowlan Park last Sunday in the 21st minute with many in attendance fearing the worst for the lightning quick young forward.

Confirmation arrived late yesterday that Mullen, a student in UCD, will now miss the remainder of the inter-county season with recovery time from an injury as serious as a cruciate estimated to be between six to nine months, all things going smoothly.

Adrian was awarded Young Player of the Year for his exploits in his debut season for the Kilkenny Seniors scoring 1-13 during the 2019 season.

He has also been instrumental in helping Ballyhale Shamrocks achieve the amazing back-to-back of club county, provincial and All-Ireland club championships.

All here at KilkennyNow.ie wish Adrian a full and speedy recovery.
