Castlecomer’s Rose ‘buds’ steal the show

CASTLECOMER’S Roses met their very own ‘Rose buds’ during a special event in the luxurious surroundings of the Avalon House Hotel.

The newly-opened hotel played host as the eight local Roses presented sashes to their new ‘buds’ yesterday morning. Then it was time to enjoy some afternoon tea in the hotel’s ballroom.

The event was the latest organised by the Castlecomer Rose Event committee, led by Breda Heary and Ann Purcell. All proceeds raised in the events go towards the local boys’ national school.

Last week the Roses literally took to the skies as they zip-lined their way 35 metres above ground at the Castlecomer Discovery Park.

And all eyes turn to next Saturday, March 9, when the Castlecomer Rose will be crowed at a selection event in Shortall’s Bar & Lounge.

The winner will then go on to represent Castlecomer at the Kilkenny final of the Rose of Tralee event at the Ormonde Hotel early next month.
