UPDATE: Langton’s ‘open for business’ just day after blaze broke out at iconic venue

LANGTON’S House Hotel is “open for business”, just a day after a fire broke out at the iconic Kilkenny venue.

In a statement issued on social media this evening, the Langton family and management confirmed: “Thanks to the hard work of our fantastic team – we are happy to say we are open for our traditional St Stephen’s night. ”

Langton’s confirmed the front bar will reopen at 4pm, while the nightclub will operate as usual from 8pm tonight. The Set Theatre will open as planned at 11pm.

The venue confirmed: “While we won’t be open for food, we are working around the clock to get that side of things sorted, but for now, we appreciate you joining us for the party tonight. There are no words to describe how overwhelmed we have been by your support and help – thank you and we hope to see you tonight in Langtons.”

Gardai and the fire service are investigating the cause of the blaze, which broke out at in the kitchen area of the hotel just after 9am on Christmas morning, however it is understood there are no suspicious circumstances.

The Langton family earlier paid a warm tribute to the kindness and support shown to them by members of the local community since news of the fire emerged. They also praised the quick-thinking actions of staff members and the swift response of the Kilkenny Fire Service.

A statement issued on social media said: “On this Christmas day we are feeling even more grateful than usual, in the light of what could have been a disaster.

“We are indebted to the quick thinking of our team and the speedy response of the Kilkenny Fire Brigade to swiftly contain a fire in our kitchen wash up area.

“Also to our local community who jumped in with offers of help even on Christmas Day. We are overwhelmed by people’s kindness. We are working around the clock to restore it, aiming for minimal disruption to our customers.

“We’d like to thank you all for your understanding and messages of support – it means a lot to us. Eamon, Trish, Eddie, Conor, Tracey and all at Langtons.”
