‘It’s shocking’ – entire suite of furniture dumped in scenic area of South Kilkenny
AN entire suite of household furniture has been illegally dumped in a scenic area of South Kilkenny.
A double bed and sitting room furniture were among the discarded items discovered in the Sheephouse Lane area of Thomastown this morning.
Thomastown-based councillor Breda Gardner, who visited the scene earlier today, hit out at the actions of those responsible.
Cllr Gardner told KilkennyNow.ie: “It’s really heartbreaking to see this. It’s shocking – it’s not acceptable.”
Cllr Gardner, who is the only Kilkenny candidate running in the looming European elections, pointed out that a facility exists for such items to be discarded in Dunmore. She said she fears the people responsible may be charging householders to take their unwanted furniture, and then illegally dumping the goods in areas that are not easily visible.
Sheepslane, which is situated between the Station Road and Leygan, was previously a blackspot for illegal dumping, but it’s been two years since the last similar incident.
Cllr Gardner said the Environment Section of Kilkenny County Council has confirmed they will collect the discarded furniture tonight or tomorrow.
