Kilkenny drivers warned: ‘Beware of enthusiastic young bucks on our roads’

Kilkenny drivers have been urged to beware of “enthusiastic” young bucks running across roads at night and early in the morning as the deer mating season gets underway.

Gardaí warned the deer pose “a very present danger” to motorists at this time of the year.

A local Garda spokesperson said: “These enthusiastic young bucks are especially prevalent at night and in the early mornings and may be dazzled by your lights.

“A good and safe rule is only ever drive within the scope of your visibility and expect the unexpected.  Be ready to stop.”

In the event of a collision, drivers are urged to immediately report the incident by phoning 112 or 999.

But the best advice, according to the spokesperson, is: “Slow down and make sure Santa has livestock to pull the sleigh in 10 weeks time!”
