Kilkenny gardai warn of animal abuse cases in countdown to Christmas

Gardai in Kilkenny have urged people to think twice before they give an animal a home in the countdown to Christmas.

It comes after local gardai – backed up by animal welfare groups, the Kilkenny SPCA and Kilkenny County Council -intervened in several cases of animal neglect and cruelty cases over the past six months.

Gardai in Kilkenny, who have enforced the 2013 Animal Welfare Act in several recent cases, said: “Animal cruelty is a crime and we must also ask ourselves before giving an animal a home, have we the commitment required?”
