Gardai out in force on Kilkenny roads
Kilkenny gardai were out in force in recent days to remind motorists about speed limits in urban areas.
The Kilkenny Roads Policing Unit maintained a visible presence yesterday manning speed checks in the city.
The policing drive is focused on 30kph zones, with checkpoints set up to protect vulnerable road users.
A local Garda spokesperson said: “According to statistics, pedestrians struck at 30kph have a 10% chance of suffering fatal injuries while those struck at 60kph have only a 10% chance of survival.”
The spokesperson added: “Please get the point, not the points.”
