Kilkenny girls who founded mental health group win prestigious national award

Two young Kilkenny girls who set up a suicide awareness group have won a prestigious national award.

Holly Farrell and Laura Delaney from Ballyragget, the founding members of the Light Up the Night Kilkenny Truck & Tractor Run, were named winners of the group award at the Garda National Youth Awards 2020 yesterday evening.

Holly and Laura set up Light Up the Night Kilkenny to highlight suicide awareness and to promote services available to the people in north Kilkenny in regard to mental health.

The group was founded in 2016. Since then the girls have been to the forefront in promoting the organisation’s Light Up the Night supports, through fundraising efforts during the run and in their school.

The Light Up the Night Kilkenny Truck & Tractor Run is held on New Year’s Eve every year. So far it has raised almost €50,000 for local organisations such as Teach Tom, Kilkenny Bereavement Centre, Pieta House, Grow, Aware, Kilkenny Involvement Centre, Anam Cara Tipperary, Lifelink Kilkenny, Buddy Bench and others.
