Kilkenny legend goes 4,728km distance to help frontline workers in fight against Covid-19

Kilkenny hurling legend Paul Murphy may be almost 5,000 kms from home as he and his battle to keep the peace in Lebanon, but that hasn’t stopped him from doing his bit to protect those at home at the coalface in the fight against Covid-19.

The big-hearted Danesfort star and his comrades in the 115th Infantry Battalion have organised a unique GoFundMe campaign – called The Long Run Home – to raise much-needed funds to help our nurses, doctors and medical staff in the frontline of the coronavirus emergency.

The four-times All-Ireland winner said: “On 19 May 20, we the 115Bn will return home from Lebanon after our 6 month tour of duty. In the next 48 days, we will walk, run or jog the 4,728km distance to home, averaging 100km every day.

“We are doing all this to raise money for the frontline staff of the HSE with #FeedTheHeroes and the Defence Forces Benevolent Fund. If you could spare a minute to like, share or donate. All help is much appreciated! Thanks folks.”
