Kilkenny motorists with tinted car windows warned: ‘You won’t be given a pass’

Kilkenny gardai have warned motorists who modify their cars with tinted windows will face proseuction.

A local Garda spokesperson took to social media today following online reaction to an earlier post about a vehicle that had darkened front side windows being stopped.

The spokesperson said: “This was done for the safety of all road users. There is a misguided perception that drivers with illegal modifications are entitled to a pass because there’s more serious crimes being committed. This isn’t the case.”

Gardai insisted heavily tinted windows present “a significant safety hazard for vehicle drivers and their occupants”.
The spokesperson added: “Visibility is greatly reduced particularly at night-time or times of low light and may prevent drivers from seeing other road users or pedestrians.”

And they warned: “Vehicle owners are welcome to stamp their individuality on their cars but such modifications must be legal or said users are quite literally inviting prosecution.”
