Kilkenny named Europe’s top destination in 2020 by influential travel site

Kilkenny has been named as Europe’s top travel destination for 2020 by an influential Scandinavian travel site.

The Marble City beat competition from Piran in Slovenia and the Fresian Island’s in Denmark to come top of the list of Napsu’s “Where to travel in 2020 – Top 20 European destinations.”

Napsu is a Finnish travel site which specialises in online bookings and last-minute deals.

“Kilkenny,” Napsu said “is a delightful village on the River Nore in the Province of Leinster, Ireland. Kilkenny is often perceived as a city because of its size  but has still managed to retain the charm of a small village and is one of Ireland’s most popular destinations.

“Kilkenny charms the visitor with its cobblestone pavements, narrow lanes, flower gardens and small colourful stone houses. The village’s most popular attractions include Kilkenny Castle, St Canice Cathedral and its medieval walls.”

Galway made it onto the list in seventh position.
