Kilkenny parents urged not to buy quad bikes or scramblers for kids this Christmas

Children and teenagers in Kilkenny should not be driving quad bikes and scramblers uninsured or unsupervised.

The gardai have warned parents that if they come across teens or children in charge of a scrambler or quad, uninsured, unlicenced, or unsupervised – the machines can and will be taken and destroyed.

That’s the message the gardai are sending out to parents in Kilkenny, asking them not to succumb to pressure and buy the high-powered machines for their kids or teens.

Parents are being asked to take into consideration the dangers involved in buying quad bikes and scramblers for their kids this Christmas, which includes serious injuries to themselves or another person, or in some cases death.

An Garda Síochána have launched a campaign to reinforce its safety message – scrambles and quad bike in the hands of young children and teenagers can cause life-changing injuries or death.

A number of people been killed or seriously injured in collisions involving quad bikes and scramblers over the last few years. Most of these were accidents involving children under the age of 18.

Machines like these should only be used under circumstances where the teen or child has the correct safety equipment, is riding in a supervised environment, has a licence and is insured.
