KILKENNY WEATHER: Snow joke – dream of a white Christmas remains on radar
It’s not too early to be dreaming of a white Christmas after the first snows of winter blanketed parts of the country over the weekend.
The forecast for snowfall remains on the radar with just eight days to go before the big day.
A Status Yellow warning for snow-ice was in effect in Kilkenny over the weekend with weather chiefs predicting the wintry showers. The warning will remain in place until this morning after temperatures plunged to lows of -3C yesterday.
The alert had been due to expire yesterday morning but forecasters extended it until 10am this morning due to the freezing conditions.
And forecasters say the bitterly cold snap will continue until the middle of the week at least.
Met Éireann said: “Monday will start cold and frosty across the country with icy stretches. Further showers will affect the northwest and coastal areas of the west, carrying further east for a time in the afternoon, otherwise there will be a good deal of sunshine.”
Similar temperatures are expected tomrrow, which is expected to be a mainly dry day with highs of between 3C to 5C.
However, forecasters said we’ll get a reprieve from the freezing cold weather by the middle of the week, with temperatures creeping back up to highs of 9C by Wednesday.
