Kilkenny rents on the verge of hitting €1,000
Rents continue to rise in Kilkenny, and if they keep rising at this pace the average rent could top €1,000 by the new year.
Kilkenny rents are up €4.9% in the last three months, reaching €975 per month, which is a staggering 70.8% higher than its lowest point in 2012.
People are paying €341 more now for renting in Kilkenny than at the lowest point in the third quarter of 2012 when rents dropped to €634.
The prices paid in Kilkenny are still below the national average which is now €1,403 as rents rose by an average of 5.2% nationwide in the year to September 2019, according to the latest quarterly Rental Report by Daft.ie.
Overall in Leinster, the average cost of a rented room, outside Dublin, rose by an average of 7.8% in the year to September 2019.
Rental inflation in Leinster has also slowed from 12% in mid-2018 to 4.3% now, its lowest rate since the second quarter of 2013.
Nationally, the average listed rent is now €373 per month higher than the previous peak in 2008 and almost €660 higher than the low seen in late 2011.
Outside of the cities, the average rent in Ireland is now €1,001, with a year-on-year change up 6.8%.
