Kilkenny school to get five new classrooms, TD says more ‘good news’ on way

A school in county Kilkenny has received funding to build a much-needed extension.

Funding has been secured to provide Scoil Mhuire National School in Mooncoin with a new five-classroom facility.

Kilkenny Fine Gael TD John Paul Phelan made the announcement as part of the Additional Accommodation Scheme for Primary Schools 2021 funded by the Department of Education.

The extension will see the creation of two mainstream classrooms as well as two further special education and training classrooms, along with a separate special education classroom for junior classes.

Scoil Mhuire is a mixed gender school which currently provides education for more than 275 boys and girls.

Deputy Phelan (pictured below) welcomed the investment, adding he is to looking forward to “further good news for other schools in the region in the coming months”.
