Line of duty: Kilkenny honours Irish UN who died overseas

A regional ceremony for the National Commemoration Day to honour all those Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in past wars or on service with the United Nations will be held in Kilkenny later today.

Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Fidelis Doherty, will host the event being held in the grounds of County Hall, John Street at 11am.

This is one of a number of regional ceremonies being held nationwide and as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, has been scaled back to just key participants and a very small number of other guests.

The Ceremony will be available for viewing on the Council’s Social Media Channels following the Event.

The ceremony formally commences with prayers from the officiating clergy and the laying of a wreath by the Cathaoirleach in honour of all those who died on service with the United Nations.
