KILKENNY WEATHER: Indian Summer melts away as winter chill arrives with a bang

Kilkenny will feel the icy grip of wintry weather approaching as temperatures plummet over the weekend.

As a beautiful late Indian summer fades to memory, Met Éireann predicted the mercury will drop to as low as one degree tomorrow night

Weather experts warned people  to wrap up and get the heating ready for the weekend when the chilly conditions hit.

Met Éireann said: “Staying fairly cool and changeable but with good autumn sunshine at times. Outbreaks of rain will affect parts of Munster and Connacht on Friday night with lowest temperatures of 6C to 9C.”

Although tomorrow will be cold, it will mostly be a dry day in the south east, with a mix of cloud and sunny spells and top temperatures of between 11 degrees and 15 degrees.

But temperatures are set to drop dramatically on Saturday night. “Turning cold with some frost possible as minimum temperatures range 1C to 5C in light winds. Some mist and fog also,” the national forecaster added.

Sunday will also be predominantly dry in the south east, with some more sunny spells to look forward to.

However, early indications suggest next week will bring more unsettled weather, with a slight rise in temperatures but with spells of “heavy rain”.
